Music Option

Description

The Department of Music offers students from other programs of study the chance to take a selection nof academic alternatives to satisfy their individual interests in music.

Objectives

The different programs of this Option attempt to offer an overview of musical performance based on the knowledge of musical language and the principal styles.

Program Structure

The Music Option offers students the following Programs:

  • Musical Language (requisite: Musical aptitude test)
  • Instrument (requisite: Musical aptitude test and audition with an instrument)
  • Choir (requisite: Musical aptitude test and choir audition)
  • Blues and Rock (requisite: Enrollment in the Department of Music
  • Jazz Practice (requisite: enrollment in the Department of Music and audition for ensamble)
  • History of Music enrollment in the Department of Music)
  • Music and Culture (requisite: Enrollment in the Department of Music)
  • Recording Techniques (requisite: Enrollment in the Department of Music)

Musical Language Program

Description

Students are required to take a Musical aptitude test.

Program Structure

The purpose of this program is for interested students to develop theoretic and practical skills in reading, musical dictation and harmony.

Jazz Practice Program

Description

The purpose of this Program is to satisfy the student’s interest in the genre and performance of Jazz. Requires knowledge of the instrument to be a part of the ensambles.

Program Structure

This major has five mandatory courses (15 credits) and no elective courses.

The Jazz Ensamble course (MUSI 1800), is enrolled for two semesters.

  • Those interested in enrolling this Option must first enroll in the Department of Music with the Academic Coordinator, Marcela Sepulveda Rueda.
  • A musical aptitude test is a mandatory requirement to be admitted to the Music Option. Students must watch out for the exam calendar.
  • The different concentrations (majors) that make up this Option do not entitle students to different certificates; they are all given the same Music Option certificate.

Blues and Rock Program

Description

This program provides knowledge regarding the musical style and an overview of the historic context in which it has developed, in addition to constructing a critical standpoint of its expansion in the perspective of consumption. Knowledge and skill in playing the electric guitar or electric bass is required.
