BIOM - Master of Biomedical Sciences
The objective of this course is to introduce students to the theory and practice of experiment design, measurement systems, devices used for measurement, the most important physical variables, methodology used in measurement of said variables, management of signs and error analysis. The course content includes: Experimental design (basic statistics, probability distributions, hypothesis proving, mean comparison, variance analysis and trust intervals), applications to quality control. Data management, transmission and recording (regressions, frequency analysis, screening). Measurement systems (applications, configuration and description of measurement instruments and instrumentation performance characteristics). Basic programming and algorithms. Practical projects.

The objective of cardiovascular dynamics is to study the physical properties of blood, heart, veins and arteries, the relation between these properties and the phenomena observed in blood circulation, and the application of the results in the research of physiology and cardiovascular pathology, and their diagnosis and treatment. In the Cardiovascular Dynamics course, students learn and develop skills for the study, analysis and understanding of phenomena related to blood flow through the cardiovascular system. Students also learn theoretical, computational and experimental methods, applied to the solution of fundamental problems such as determination of blood flow patterns and the distributions of stresses on the arterial walls.
