Objectives

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering strives to provide students with a solid conceptual education as to the basic topics of physical sciences and their technical application in solving problems. The program strengthens the student's ability to assume the updating process indispensable to his/her future professional development. This is complemented with a wide humanistic training that allows understanding and committing to society. The alumni are expected to contribute to the country's development by providing innovative inputs based on sustainable growth.

The educational Objectives of the Civil Engineering Program match those of the ABET accreditation. ABET is a recognized accreditor for college and university programs in engineering, technology, computer and applied sciences. The ABET accreditation guarantees that the university meets the education quality standards for a specific program, and enables a systematic and permanent mechanism to conduct assessments and ensure continuous improvements to education quality. The educational Objectives of the Civil Engineering program are described below.

The alumni of the Civil Engineering Program are expected to:

  • Have the ability to apply basic sciences and engineering by clearly understanding his/her ethical, social and professional responsibility to serve successfully in positions of environmental engineering and/or development and research.
  • Lead, plan, design, build and operate projects of physical infrastructure by committing to the achievement of a fair equilibrium between the long-term social infrastructure needs and a healthy environment framed by the principle of intergenerational responsibility.
  • Conduct research and be willing to acquire advance knowledge that allows reaching a remarkable performance as professionals in multidisciplinary working teams.
