This is a theoretical and practical course to help students understand the fundamentals and basics of cellular systems organization and cellular processes. These topics will be enshrined in the new tendencies of modern biology. This context will allow students to explore cellular structure and biomolecules. The course will cover typical processes such as energy flow, transport across cell membranes and intracellular transport. Students will also study signal transduction, cell signaling, cell division and metabolism. This material will be covered within the evolutionary and historical process of cellular biology, with an emphasis on molecular biology and its applications in biotechnology.

Biochemistry includes the entire molecular basis of processes that take place in living beings. Under this perspective, it is immediately perceived that none of the areas in science involving life can escape the frontiers of this sphere of knowledge. In this order of ideas, the course of General Biochemistry attempts to provide a view of the basic concepts of the discipline in order for students to understand the rules of the molecular logic of cells, and recognize the structural basis of biomolecules, enzymatic catalysis and its relationship with bioenergetics. This is expected to provide students with an understanding of the central routes of metabolism, leading the concept to a metabolic integration focused on the interrelationship between the different processes of degradation and synthesis that constitute biochemical routes.

This is a theoretic course that introduces students to the fundamental aspects in the field of virology. MBIO-3100 Biología Celular y Molecular de Procariotas - Teoría

Cellular and Molecular Biology of Prokaryotes is one of the mandatory courses of the concentration in the molecular and cellular line of the Biology and Microbiology Program. Therefore, it is designed to integrate the knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology, cellular biology and physiological microbiology in prokaryotes. The main objective of the course is to familiarize students in depth with the molecular and cellular level of the mechanisms involved in the replication of chromosomal as well as plasmid genetic material, in the mechanisms of recombination and reparation, and interrelate this understanding with the synthesis of proteins and the transport of proteins to their final environment for the biosynthesis of structures such as membrane, flagella, etc. Operon type positive and negative regulators and the cell differentiation system, particularly sporulation, are analyzed in detail along with horizontal transfer mechanisms and their implications on variability.
