LEGI - Postgraduate Certificate in Financial Legislation

This module studies the financial intermediation process, which constitutes the raison d’être of the system, and the legal instruments by means of which this economic function is carried out. Similarly, it analyzes the fundamental economic notes relating to this process, the different bank contracts and operations.

This module introduces participants to the study of the financial legislation as specialized area of Law, with respect to the notion, sources and historical evolution, as well as the general theory of financial institutions. It includes creation, operation, supervision and liquidation aspects of financial institutions, in addition to the analysis of civil, administrative and criminal liability of administrators.

Based on the presentation of the different theories established as regards the legal nature of financial activity and the State’s authority to intervene, and as a result of its sovereignty over issues relating to currency and credit, this course studies and analyzes the concrete manifestation of this intervention through the state entities in charge of regulating, controlling and monitoring the system, with emphasis on the jurisprudence of high courts.

This model covers the most relevant legal aspects of the securities market, its structure and main institutions, the supervision thereof and the adequate financial instruments to channel private savings directly to productive companies.

This course is focused on the study of the concepts of interest, the value of money over time and the equivalencies of interest and money over time. It includes the criteria for the evaluation of investment projects. It is carried out based on the study of basic mathematical models used to learn the value of money over time and other related topics. In this module, students carry out practical exercises on the matter.

Presentation of the fundamental concepts of financial accounting with emphasis on the development of practical exercises that allow participants to understand the structure and management of financial statements, horizontal and vertical analysis of balances and profit and loss statements, and study of the sole accounts plan structure (PUC for its acronym in Spanish) of financial institutions.

Professional non-attorneys attend a leveling cycle in basic legal topics that will allow them to understand the specialized legal topic that will be addressed throughout the program.

This course analyses the theoretical perspectives, the historical context, functioning and interference in global policy of several international institutions and questions the power of institutions such as the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the World Trade Center, among others.

Explanation of the fundamental elements to understand the connection between the financial sector and the stock market, and the rest of the economy, as well as the concrete situation and their perspectives in Colombia. It studies the role of money, economic channels and the economic system as regards financial and monetary policies.
