MATE4167 Modelos Matemáticos en Ecología

An introduction to population dynamics modeling via ordinary and partial differential equations. Topics include basic non-spatial single species models, non-spatial models of interacting populations, spatial population dynamics via reaction-diffusion equations, steady state solutions, modeling of invading species, notions of critical domain size and spreading speed, extending classical models to two-compartment and spatially heterogenous settings.

Objetivos:
  • Learning the classical models of non-spatial population dynamics.
  • Learning and applying analytical and graphical methods to predict long-term behavior of non-spatial ecological models.
  • Learning how ecological settings are modeled by various boundary value problems involving reaction-diffusion equations.
  • Learning the basic techniques for analysis of long-term behavior of spatial ecological models.
