MIAD4400 Fundamentos en Ecología Industrial
Elective course. This course reviews the theoretical foundations of organisational sustainability by studying its underlying ecological concepts and management frameworks. Industrial ecology is introduced as an emerging holistic, multidisciplinary paradigm for managing sustainability.
Industrial ecology (IE) is an emerging field of study featuring a multidisciplinary systems approach to understand the sustainability implications of industrial operations by combining technical-, economic- and social science-related perspectives. By analysing resource flows and physical resource transformation at different stages, including products, materials, energy, and water, industrial ecology helps understand how industrial systems operate within the limits of nature and under the influence of social institutions.
Building on the theoretical foundations of environmental management, this course will deploy a systems approach to understand sustainability implications of industrial operations.
