CBIO-4111 Advanced Medical Biochemistry
The course is based on knowledge of metabolism disorders. It begins with previous knowledge on metabolic pathways and develops two major areas, protein metabolism in normal physiological states and in illnesses, studying the alterations of metabolism of amino acids and defects in the urea cycle. Additionally, it discusses the biochemical scenario of simple and complex carbohydrates in normal conditions, exploring initially the most common metabolic defects for these compounds such as diabetic and hypoglycemic phenomena, following with the alterations of metabolism of muscular and hepatic glycogen, finishing with the metabolic defects at the level of oligosaccharides and mucopolysaccharides. In total, the course covers over fifty illnesses, offering a totally applied vision of the body amphibolic system.
