MEDI-3802 Medical Ethics and Professionalism II
This course brings the tenth semester medical student into contact with the most frequent ethical dilemmas in modern medical practice. This will combine reading on different topics, with their discussion in class, and the analysis and presentation of concrete clinical cases. Students will also be given direct experience by attending ethics committees at the Hospital Universitario de la Fundación Santa Fe de Bogotá, to see how cases are analyzed and discussed, and a chance to attend the program for bioethical topics at meetings organized by the committee. Students’ participation in all the activities must be very active, promoting different points of view to grow in tolerance for opposing ideas and to learn how to discuss issues with respect. The basic idea is for the student to understand and experience the role of the basic principles of bioethics in modern medical practice.
