Foreign Language Regulation
1. New or old students (1991-1 and subsequent codes)
Students from 1999 onwards must meet two language requirements:
- English reading requirement
- Second language command requirement
A. English reading requirement: Demonstrate a high level of reading comprehension in English
To meet the English reading requirement that must be fulfilled prior to beginning the fifth semester of the career, students must satisfy any of the following requirements:
- Pass the English placement test, given by the Languages and Sociocultural Studies Department to all new students (Students may take the English placement test as many times as necessary, but not more than once in the same semester), or
- Pass the courses suggested by the result of the placement test and pass up to English course 3 (LENG 103), given by the Department of Languages and Sociocultural Studies
B. Second language command requirement: Demonstrate command of a foreign language, both regarding comprehension, and oral and written expression
Students with a code equal to or above 1999 - 1 may meet the second language command requirement - English, French, German, or Italian, exclusively - by way of any of the following three modalities:

B.2. Modality of Language Courses at Uniandes -Only in English
The student must take and pass English levels 4, 5 and 6 - equivalent to LENG 1104, LENG 1105 AND LENG 1106 - given by the Languages and Sociocultural Studies Department, upon fulfillment of the English reading requirement (see number 1).
B.3. Modality of Equivalency
The student meets the second language command requirement if, upon being admitted to the University, he / she has command of any of the four languages mentioned - English, French, German or Italian -, which must be proven via the following documents or certificates:
