Objectives
The art program is intended to provide its students with:
- Conceptual and technical tools to understand and analyze the various artistic moments in history and the possibilities generated therefrom.
- Elements that make it easier for the artist to express himself and his society by way of images and symbols.
- Training to produce works of art that reflect on the philosophical, social, and historic aspects at the time.
- Knowledge to be able to work both on artistic creation, and on the reflection and critique of the history and theory of art and other cultural fields.
Study Plan
The undergraduate program offers four basic concentration areas:
- Plastic arts
- Electronic media and arts of time
- History and theory of art
- Cultural projects
The student, as of the Fourth Semester, selects his area of concentration to obtain the respective degree.
Area of Plastics Arts
The students may become acquainted with the world of shapes, its perception and creation, within space and time, in a historical and geographical context, to be able to configure an individual plastic language. They shall develop a creative intuition, endowed with content, with a communicative function within society. Likewise, they will acquire manual skills by way of countless technical processes, which will allow them to know and experience thei abilty as an image producer.
Area of Electronic Media and Arts of Time
The area has two main Objectives:
- Develop technical skills in the student, specific to the new technologies and media, and promote reflection regarding their impact on contemporary culture and on the relation between artistic creation and the use of new media and technologies
- Reflect on contemporary artistic processes that use time to develop their proposals. Among them we can mention the use of the body as an expressive medium and ephemeral interventions in unconventional spaces.
Area of History and Theory of Art
Courses in this area intend to bring the student scloser to basic concepts on the history and theory of art, with a reflective and critical attitude. Emphasis is placed on studying specific problems relative to art and the Latin American and Colombian culture, so the student may acquire sufficient conceptual tools to analyze their own context.
Area of Cultural Projects
This academic space allows students to discover and develop their teaching vocation and skills to further significant social interactions that allow them to manage and coordinate cultural projects in the field of artistic production.
Organization of the Study Plan
The courses of the first two semesters are mandatory for all the students joining the program. As of the Third Semester, students are free to select the courses.
To opt for the professional degree offered by the Department, the student must accredit the following:
- 24 mandatory credits in the first two semesters (8 courses)
- 18 credits of the Uniandes Basic Cycle (6 courses)
- 3 credits of the Constitution and Democracy course
- 6 credits in elective courses on Art (2 courses)
- 6 credits in free election courses (CLE) (2 courses)
- 15 credits in Interdisciplinary Worshops 1 and 2, Preliminary Draft, and Final Project
- 39 credits in courses from the concentration area selected (13 courses)
- 27 credits in courses from areas other than the concentration area (9 courses)
