LENG 1890 Introduccion a la Traduccion Aplicada
Students on this course will be introduced to the fundamental concepts in Applied Translation Studies as well as the most important translation theories. The teacher will present translation mechanisms, and based on these, by using relevant texts, students will analyse and compare translation strategies to gin an understanding of the translation process. Throughout the course, the focus will be on translation problems and how these can be resolved by using analytical tools. Classes will consist of presentations on fundamental concepts, followed by discussions of the literature. After the theoretical component, students will have the opportunity to translate short texts in groups. These translations will be socialised, discussed, and
analysed through a close reading process; students will have the opportunity to discuss their translation decisions in terms of individual words, syntax, and the form and treatment of linguistic constructions such as metaphors.
