MEDI-2407 Medical Parasitology
Due to our geographic location, the diseases caused by microorganisms represent a significant percentage of visits to the doctor, and generate public health problems in specific regions of the country. Among the agents that cause these illnesses, parasites represent an important area in our Latin American countries. In Colombia, different sources of transmission of parasitic diseases, favored by the climatic conditions and the presence of animal vectors and reservoirs, have been recognized and studied. In addition, permanent or occasional human invasion is more common in inhospitable regions of the country that allow the perpetuation of the transmission of an illness or the description of other infectious agents in humans. In the course of Medical Parasitology, together with parasitologists of the Universidad de los Andes, reviews the main parasitic diseases in humans from different perspectives such as basic science, clinical science and research.
