LITE 3520 William Faulkner
In this seminar, we will read and discuss some of the major novels of William Faulkner, one of the great writers of the American South. We will initially study a few short stories that will introduce the main topics, themes and formal matters present in Faulkner’s oeuvre. The seminar involves some contextualizing around topics such as the South, the Civil War, slavery, the literature of the South, etc., but its main purpose is to closely read the texts. In parallel, we will explore some recent critical perspectives about the author and his work. The seminar will be conducted in English. Students are expected to prepare presentations about the course topics, actively participate in discussions, and write two papers (involving research and at least three critical sources).
