Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences Option
Description
The disciplines involved in environmental problems are traditionally put together into four major groups: Natural Sciences, in charge of contributing the basic knowledge of the biotic and abiotic components; Economic Sciences and Social Sciences, which together form the cultural and economic component; Technological Sciences, which modulate and are the reflection of interaction between cultural and biotic - abiotic components. Therefore, the curriculum of this Option clusters the courses into four major blocks of knowledge, within which the University’s different schools are identified.

Objectives
The purpose of this Option is to:
- Provide students with the interdisciplinary tools necessary to be able to assume a critical position in view of environmental problems and the decisions that they are expected to make during their careers.
- Provide students with a broad perspective of the environmental issue based on different professional disciplines
- Familiarize students with the current problems, leaders, trends and currents of thought in Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences through the "Green Forum"
- Provide students with the option of integrating knowledge in the analysis of a specific problem in the course of applied research
This Option is coordinated together with the Schools of Architecture, Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, Engineering and the Interdisciplinary Center for Regional Studies – CIDER-.
Program Structure
The curriculum consists of four elective courses (12 credits), which belong to the different professional disciplines, and applied research (3 credits), which involves the solution to an environmental problem, for a total of 15 credits.

Monography
- The courses of the Basic Uniandino Cycle –CBU- taken by the student may also be Option courses.
- Elective courses cannot be mandatory courses or elective courses from the students` program of study.
- The courses that are applicable for the Option vary depending on the supply of the different departments each semester.
- The work carried out in applied research must be different from the graduation project, or the research project from other options that the students are enrolled in.
