Biological Sciences Department
The Department of Biological Sciences works in such a way that the undergraduate programs maintain their independence and individuality, and have different objectives and fields of action. They share some aspects in order to optimize the available resources, as well as to offer students a greater range of academic possibilities, resulting in enriching cooperation for all. Biology and Microbiology have a shared initial academic-administrative platform. This scheme allows professors from the Department to actively participate in both programs, responding to the needs and objectives of each one and without ignoring their particularities. This fact has advantages for students who acquire a broad and integrative vision of natural sciences, guided by specialists in various subjects. They also have the possibility of interacting with students from other programs and with the majority of the Department's professors to carry out practices, internships, assemblies and other activities.
In the postgraduate course, as can be seen in the programs and research centers, there is a wide variety of research topics in Biology and Microbiology with specialized laboratories, equipped with the necessary equipment to carry out practices and research on cutting-edge topics in the scientific field.
The Department has the following infrastructure at the service of undergraduate and graduate professors and students:
- Laboratories and research and teaching groups with modern and up-to-date equipment.
- Bioterium: place where animals that are bred for research and teaching activities are kept.
- Greenhouse
- Robust state-of-the-art equipment
- Computing capacity
- Multiple audiovisual aids
- Numerous specialized bibliographic databases with easy access
- CJ Marinkelle Museum
