IMEC 4521 Herramientas Modernas de Automatización

During former classes of mechanics, students have learnt to design individual subsystems and to develop the feedback control laws of their actuators. However, the design of complex systems (as the manufacturing ones) consist in the assembly of the individual subsystems and in their coordination to perform a specific functionality.

This class has the objective to introduce the theoretical background and software tools for performing this activity called systems integration.

2020-2

This class studies the automation of physical plants focusing on the design and verification of the control logic deployed into PLC controllers. Mathematical models and industrial guidelines for the control of discrete event systems are introduced, along with strategies for their deployment into PLC controllers. Modern tools widespread in the context of the industry 4.0 are adopted throughout the course as the virtual commissioning simulation for the verification of PLC code, and the Digital Twin for the generation of decision support systems.

Modern Tools for Automation is a fully hands-on course in which students are going to learn by solving close-to-industrial case studies coming from the manufacturing and the protected agriculture domain.
