GEOC3302 Tectonic Geodesy (Inglés)

Curso electivo para cubrir requisito GEOC-3XXX

A hands-on introduction to satellite-based geodetic techniques for measuring and modelling active tectonic motions, surface deformation and the time-varying gravity field of the Earth. The course will focus mainly on two satellite geodetic techniques used to measure surface deformation: GPS and Radar interferometry (InSAR); the course will also include interpretation of gravity data for understanding dynamic processes such as volcanism. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to interpret real datasets, and to construct numerical models based on their observations. An optional field trip will give them the opportunity to collect their own GPS and gravity data in a zone of active surface deformation – most likely in an active volcanic zone together with the Volcanology course trip.
