LENG1120 Effective Speaking
Effective Speaking is a hands-on learning course that aims to stimulate the improvement of certain characteristics of the English language that are quite different from those of the Spanish language. By improving such characteristics, students will be able to communicate orally in a more effective manner. The characteristics that the course deals with are intonation, linking, rhythm, stress (words and sentences), and troublesome sounds (consonant and vowel). A very important component of the course is related to technology-based activities which encourage the development of autonomy and self-monitoring. Even though speaking is the basic and most important part of the course, there are other skills that are also taken into account throughout the course. Besides improving the above mentioned characteristics, the course also aims to make students realize that the language should be a very important part in their lives not only as professionals but also as participants in a culture different from theirs.
