CEPER
In 1991, the Universidad de los Andes founded the Center for the Promotion of Journalism, later renamed the Center for Journalism Studies (CEPER), with the aim of promoting journalistic research and training by thinking about, qualifying and quantifying the practice of journalism in Colombia. The Center for Journalism Studies is the channel through which the Universidad de los Andes engages in dialogue with the media society and reflects on the problems facing the practice of journalism in the context of its public responsibility. Thus, in 1993, the CEPER obtained approval for a graduate program called Specialization in Communication Media, later renamed Specialization in Journalism. This was the first graduate program in journalism in Colombia aimed at non-journalists.
CEPER is the way in which the Universidad de los Andes has decided to think about journalism through graduate programs, research, debates on current journalistic issues, publishing agreements, seminars, workshops and courses. This important thematic and academic development has led to it being incorporated as one of the departments of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the Universidad de los Andes since 1999.
Programs offered
CEPER offers the Digital Narratives program at the undergraduate level, as well as the Options in Journalism and Digital Narratives (formerly the Media Option) that are based on cycle or semester courses that include subjects from the Uniandino Basic Cycle (CBU) or Free Elective Courses (CLE). These options are aimed at all undergraduate students at the Universidad de los Andes who wish to take subjects other than those in their major, either because they are interested in deepening their knowledge of journalism or to collect a certain number of academic credits.
