The Master's Degree in Movable Cultural Heritage aims to address the study, management, assessment, conservation and research of Colombian movable cultural heritage, from an interdisciplinary perspective and with an emphasis on the social activation of cultural heritage.

It is an interdisciplinary, in-person master's degree in the form of in-depth study or research, and is based on work on specific projects based on the needs that exist throughout Colombia.

The Master's Degree is committed to interpreting cultural assets as objects that link the past to the future: it studies them as indispensable documents for understanding our existence and for enriching the wide variety of disciplines developed in our institution.

Objectives

  • To train highly academic researchers in topics related to movable cultural heritage.
  • To train professionals in the assessment, management and conservation of movable heritage.
  • Promote the appropriation and social activation of Colombian cultural heritage.
  • Participate in the protection of Colombian cultural heritage through research projects of Master's students.

Study Plan

It is carried out over a minimum of three semesters and has 36 credits, which are divided as follows: 5 heritage research seminars (20 credits), 2 elective seminars (8 credits) and 2 in-depth degree project development courses (8 credits).

Areas of Research or Emphasis

A good part of the heritage expressions are related to the field of movable cultural heritage: the development of solid research in the field would allow for a deeper understanding of the aesthetic, architectural and visual expressions of the country, which in turn would allow for the formulation of clearer heritage policies. Museums, for example, require researchers trained in the field. The need to develop research and consolidate heritage policies in areas that have not been sufficiently addressed, such as colonial art or nineteenth-century Colombian art, has become increasingly evident.
