English 01 is the second course of the integrated-skills basic cycle of the Academic English for Undergraduate Studies program. This course focuses on the development of basic skills in English for effective communication in general and academic contexts at an early A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages(CEFR). The course emphasizes on the development of reading skills of everyday and academic texts for learners to complete academic and professional tasks in English in an effective manner. English 01 prepares students to confidently speak and write about weather conditions and activities people do at different times of the year, describe natural events, narrate stories, and analyze social activities like shopping and the evolution of marketplaces from an objecti e and critical perspective. They can also ask and answer questions, make suggestions, retell a story, and talk about familiar or formal topics, as well as interpret and describe images and places, discuss individual achievements, and carry out a survey. Besides, the course promotes the gradual acquisition of critical thinking skills and the use of strategies for long-lasting, autonomous language learning.
