Course Description

English 02 is the third course of the integrated-skills basic cycle of the Academic English for Undergraduate Studies program. This course focuses on the consolidation of basic skills in English, essential grammar structures, and vocabulary required for effective communication in general and academic contexts at a solid A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The course progresses in the emphasis on developing reading skills of everyday and academic texts for learners to complete academic and professional tasks in English in an effective manner. English 02 prepares students to express their ideas in writing through simple and compound sentences about a difficult situation or emergency, a difficult situation or emergency, a description of a city with a river, and differing views on friendship using expressions of contrast. They can also talk and write about habitual or repeated activities in the past, introduce examples and show contrast, results, and sequence, describe depth and volume, and have a debate. They will also understand short oral apply listening comprehension techniques to recall and activate knowledge, interpret visual clues, make, confirm, and modify predictions about audio text contents, and identify key information, attitudes, main topics, and viewpoints in radio interviews. Besides, students will develop basic critical thinking skills and strategies to ground their autonomous language learning process on.

Course Goal

The goal of this course is to consolidate students’ communicative competence in English and enable them to participate in short academic discussions and prepared presentations on familiar issues. Building on English 01, the course strengthens listening, speaking, and writing abilities and supports reading skills, fostering clearer organization in writing, improved comprehension of short academic materials, and the use of interaction, debate, and autonomous learning strategies as students transition toward the upper Basic Cycle of the Academic English for Undergraduate Studies program. 

By the end of the course, students are expected to meet the Course Goal and achieve the following proficiency levels in English according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
