LENG1153 English 03

Course Description

This course focuses on developing students’ four language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking), as well as key topic vocabulary and grammar structures that will allow them to succeed in academic and social settings. The course aims to develop a stronger set of reading skills in comparison to the other skills of the language. Moreover, critical thinking skills are taught and practiced, requiring students’ reflection and analysis rather than simple recall. In English 3, all language activities and tasks are framed within the topics of city life and campus life, shopping and consumerism, communication with friends and family, and the impact of communication technology.

Course Goal

The goal of this course is to enable students to communicate more confidently on everyday and introductory academic topics by producing short spoken and written texts, including simple paragraphs and academic emails. Building on English 2, the course strengthens students’ ability to participate in structured conversations, describe people, and understand short written and spoken texts needed for university contexts while continuing to promote autonomous learning and critical thinking skills.

By the end of the course, students are expected to achieve the following proficiency levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

Reading: B1
Listening: A2+
Speaking: A2+
Writing: A2+
Grammar: A2+
